Ryan’s Whole Deal
As mentioned on the home page, Ryan T. Barlow is a humorist based in Philadelphia, PA. Here are some easily digestible factoids arranged in convenient bullets explaining his life in comedy:
In 2009, he was First Person Arts’ Best Storyteller in Philadelphia, which is something he still keeps on his resume to this day. You can see the winning story here.
He’s been performing improv since 2012, which is a long time. He was a member of the legendary improv team Dr. Sleepover, the slightly less legendary, but still highly regarded improv team Untitled, and the not all that legendary, but still memorable improv team Cake Bear.
In 2013, he created and launched the improvised NPR-style chat show People of Interest, in which he would write characters for performers to play, the catch is that the performers wouldn’t know anything about their characters until Ryan read it out to the audience. It was a lot of fun and ran for about four years give or take. You can learn more about it here.
It should be noted that during the COVID pandemic, Ryan resurrected the show as a live video show.
In 2014, joined up with Wendy Lenhart to form the Mean Wendy Band. Ryan plays the bass in this band and writes many of the songs. You can learn more about it here.
In 2024, he began writing essays that are hopefully considered funny. You can read them here.
If you’d like to contact Ryan, send him a message on LinkedIn until he gets his act together and creates a public facing email address. You can’t just go putting your personal email address out in public for the world to see. That’s just a recipe for disaster.
